Technical and Quality teams are vital in food and drink manufacturing, safeguarding product integrity, protecting brand reputation, and ensuring operational resilience. As specialist recruiters, we help food and drink manufacturing businesses find the talent to maintain high standards.
In a market shaped by tightening legislation, retailer scrutiny, evolving food safety standards and increasing consumer transparency, strong Technical and Quality teams embed robust systems that ensure compliance while enabling sustainable, efficient growth. Strengthen your food and drink manufacturing business with True North Talent today.
Technical and Quality in food manufacturing is a unique discipline.
It requires a balance of:
• Food safety and HACCP expertise
• Retailer and customer standards knowledge (BRCGS, retailer COPs)
• Regulatory and labelling compliance understanding
• Audit leadership and risk management capability
• Factory quality systems implementation
• Cross-functional influencing and stakeholder management
We understand the difference between a site-based Quality Manager focused on audit readiness and a Technical Manager leading retailer relationships. We know what it takes to maintain standards in chilled versus ambient manufacturing environments. And we understand how Technical and Quality must work cross-functionally with NPD, Operations and Supply Chain to protect product launches and maintain compliance at scale.
We take a consultative approach to permanent Technical and Quality hires.
We look beyond the job description to understand:
• Your retailer and customer profile
• Site audit history and compliance maturity
• Product category risk level (chilled, ambient, high care, etc.)
• Technical team structure
• Risk exposure and growth plans
• Cultural dynamics within the factory
We proactively approach high-performing Technical and Quality professionals within food manufacturing - not just active job seekers.
Food manufacturing is evolving rapidly:
• Increasing retailer scrutiny and audit standards
• Tighter food safety legislation
• Greater supply chain risk
• Allergen and labelling compliance pressure
• Sustainability and ethical sourcing requirements
• Heightened consumer transparency
Your Technical & Quality team sits at the centre of all of it.
The right hire doesn’t just maintain standards, they:
• Protect brand reputation
• Strengthen retailer relationships
• Reduce audit risk and non-conformances
• Improve food safety culture
• Minimise waste and costly recalls
Hiring incorrectly, however, can lead to audit failure, commercial damage and operational disruption.
That’s why sector expertise matters.
We recruit across the full Technical and Quality lifecycle, from site-based quality control through to strategic technical leadership.

Explore our latest market insights on all things food and drink manufacturing.
I’m a sucker for a good discount code, and I’ve seen numerous influencers posting codes lately about HelloFresh and Gousto so I thought I’d give them a try. Although recipe boxes have been around awhile now, I’m totally new to trying them. There’s a few pros and cons I’ve noticed so far.
In the Food and Drink manufacturing industry, we're no strangers to disruption. From Brexit to Covid, global conflicts to raw material shortages, supply chains have taken a beating over the last few years. And while those headlines have dominated, there's a quieter, more dangerous challenge threatening the industry's long term stability: the talent shortage. Yes, a late shipment can throw off your production line. But a missing team leader, technical manager, or site director? That can derail your entire operation.
There was an article this week in the Food Manufacture by Bethan Grylls, titled "Reading food and drink labels with sight loss" - and how food manufacturing companies can make their packaging more inclusive and accessible for those with visual impairments. It is a really insightful article exploring the world of a VIP (Visually Impaired Person) and certainly made me think of scenarios I hadn't thought of before - how are VIPs expected to navigate their way around a supermarket and read food and drink labels. As a coeliac, I wear my glasses on my head in the supermarket as I am constantly trying to read the ever decreasing font size on food labelling to ensure the product I buy is safe for me! I cannot imagine how challenging it must be for VIPs. It will be interesting to see how the technologies currently available and those yet to be invented, can help VIPs and those of us whose eyesight is likely to deteriorate further.
